What can I do if I no longer have access to my smartphone/tablet or security key?
Description
You are no longer able to use your AGOV login because you no longer have access to your smartphone/tablet or security key. If an additional login factor is registered in your AGOV account, you can use that with your AGOV login.We recommend that you always register at least 2 login factors in your AGOV account, in order to avoid being locked out of your account.
Instructions
The recovery procedure depends on whether you have a verified or unverified AGOV account.- Unverified AGOV account: For recovery purposes, you need the recovery code that was provided to you when you registered your AGOV account; however, for new registrations since 29 January 2026, this code is no longer issued. Instead, recovery is carried out via the mobile phone number on file.:
- If the recovery code is available , you can perform an account recovery as described in the Recovering an account with a recovery code help article.
- If the recovery code is no longer available , then your AGOV account must be reset as described in the Recovering an account without a recovery code help article.
- If the recovery code is available , you can perform an account recovery as described in the Recovering an account with a recovery code help article.
- Verified AGOV account: For account recovery purposes, a new verification is necessary, so that you can be identified as the legal accountholder. The verification method depends on the status of your AGOV account:
- To enable your AGOV account, you received a verification letter by post : perform an account recovery as described in the Recovering an account with a verification letter help article.
- Your AGOV account was verified using personal proof of identity by postal, in-person or video identification : perform an account recovery as described in the Account recovery with personal identity check help article.
- To enable your AGOV account, you received a verification letter by post : perform an account recovery as described in the Recovering an account with a verification letter help article.
