Description

Request to verify your data
You have registered with an online public service using your AGOV-Login, or have created a new AGOV account. After logging in or registering, you will be asked to verify your data. In this case, the online service will require a higher level of proof of identity than your AGOV account currently has.

Once the required identity verification has been completed, your AGOV-Login can be used with the online service. Various verification procedures are available for proof of identity, depending on your place of residence. The following section describes the ID/passport verification online (ID verification) process.


Instructions

ID/passport verification online
Identity verifications can be performed online on a PC/laptop or on a smartphone/tablet.

Requirements

  • Video identification can be used by private individuals with a Swiss or foreign domicile address. It takes about 30 minutes.
  • The identity verification is valid for 5 years.
  • The following identity documents are accepted for video identification:
    • ID cards and passports in accordance with Country list.
      • Swiss residence permits are not accepted.
      • Other documents such as driving licences, SwissPass, student IDs, etc. are not accepted.
  • Video identification can be performed in the web browser on a PC/laptop or using the IDnow app on a smartphone/tablet. The microphone and webcam must be enabled on the device used.
  • The AGOV account holder must be present in person for video identification. It is not possible to use a proxy.
Opening times
The ID/Pass verification can be completed online at any time.

Registration for identity verification

  1. Identity verification is started automatically when you log in to or register with an online service. Click on Start verification.

  2. The available verification methods are determined based on your domicile address and ID document. Click on Start.

  3. The choice of verification methods depends on whether you live in Switzerland or abroad:

    1. Select Switzerland as your place of residence. Click on Continue to verification.

    2. Enter the postcode for your town/city.

    3. The acceptable forms of identification depend on your nationality. First select your nationality and then the type of identification document you wish to use to identify yourself.

    4. Select the ID/passport verification online option and click on Start.

    5. The data entered in the AGOV account is displayed and can be modified if necessary. You also have the option of entering your AHV details. After checking your data, click on Continue.

    6. Enter your mobile number to receive an identification code by text message. Select the desired correspondence language.

    7. Enter your Swiss domicile address and modify it if necessary. When entering the postcode, the correct town/city name is offered for selection. Accept this as shown.

    8. Check your details. Click on Back to return to the previous screen to make any modifications. Click on Confirm.

    Perform an identity verification with a foreign domicile address ▼

    1. Select Rest of the world and click on Continue to verification.
      Select country if you live outside Switzerland.

    2. The acceptable forms of identification depend on your nationality. First select your nationality and then the type of identification document you wish to use to identify yourself.

    3. Select the ID/passport verification online option and click on Start.

    4. The data entered in the AGOV account is displayed and can be modified if necessary. You also have the option of entering your AHV details. After checking your data, click on Continue.

    5. Enter your mobile number to receive an identification code by text message. Select the desired correspondence language.

    6. Enter your foreign domicile address or modify it if necessary.

    7. Check your details. Click on Back to return to the previous screen to make any modifications. Click on Confirm.

  4. You must confirm your entries with the login factor that you used to log in to the online service:

    The prompts may differ depending on the Android and iOS version.

    1. You will receive a push notification from AGOV access app, which will be displayed in the status bar on your smartphone or tablet. Click on the push notification to confirm the entries with the AGOV access app.

      If no push notification is displayed, check whether push notifications for the AGOV access app are enabled (see help article: Why doesn't the AGOV access app receive push notifications?).


    2. Confirm using your PIN, fingerprint or Face ID.

    3. Click on Continue to finalise the confirmation.

    4. Enter the PIN of your security key. Tap the security key to confirm.

  5. If the address verification fails, an error message will be displayed. Click on Back and correct any mistakes in the first name, surname and domicile address. Then reconfirm.

  6. After successfully registering for identity verification, video identification will start automatically in your web browser. The service is provided by Adnovum and carried out by IDnow.

  7. Make sure you have your chosen identification document ready. Click To the identity verification.


  8. Select the device on which you would like to carry out the video identification. We recommend using the IDnow Autoident app and completing the identity verification on your smartphone or tablet. No login or registration is required, and you can delete the app from your device once the identification is complete.

    • Select the option Computer & Webcam, to perform video identification in your web browser on a PC/laptop. Verify your mobile number and confirm the remaining details. Click Start identification.

    • Select the option desktop browser experience here.


    • Make sure you have your ID document ready and click on OK, I'm ready!.


    • Hold your ID card in the marked area.


      If the document is not recognized, you will receive an error message. Follow the instructions on the screen and try again.


    • Hold the back of your ID card up to the camera and click Scan back.


    • Follow the instructions on the screen and swipe your ID card so that the security features are highlighted, then click Start scan.


    • Follow the instructions on the screen and wait until the scan is complete.


    • After scanning, the document is analyzed.


    • The note Check completed appears with a green check mark.


    • You will now be asked to create a video selfie. To do so, click on Start


    • When you are ready, click on I'm ready and follow the instructions on the screen.

    • After successful recording, you will receive a notification that the selfie is being uploaded in encrypted form. After uploading, you will receive a Success! Message from the system appears.



    • Your verification data will be transmitted by the system.


    • After submitting the verification data, you will be informed that the identity check has been completed and you will have the option to switch back to AGOV if you wish. To do so, click on Continue to AGOV.


    • If you have decided to do so, a message will appear stating that the Request processing message appears. You can switch to your personal AGOV account by clicking on Go to AGOV me.

    Select the Smartphone App option to perform the video identification using the IDnow Autoident app. Scan the QR code with your smartphone/tablet to install the IDnow Autoident app from the App Store. Open the app and enter the Indent ID to start the identification.

    Install the IDnow Autoident app on your smartphone or tablet.


    Enter your Ident-ID.


    Accept the terms and conditions and, after reading the privacy policy and service terms, start your identification.


    Allow AutoIdent to access your camera.

    You will then be asked to show the front side of your ID document again and move it within the indicated area so that the system can identify the security features.


    Get ready for the video selfie. Once you are ready, click on Start.

    A system message about the encrypted upload will appear. Afterwards, a message confirming the successful transmission of your data will be displayed, and you can click Finish. You will then have the option to close the program or return to the AGOV application.





  9. The result of the identity verification will be sent to you by email within 24 hours. After that, you can use your AGOV login with the desired online service.

    During the video identification process, the following situations may occur:

    • The identity verification is rejected because the identification document is invalid or incorrect information was provided. If the identity verification is refused, the registration is automatically cancelled and you must register again for a new identity verification. You can initiate a new registration by logging in once more with your AGOV login to the authority’s online service.
    • If the video identification is not completed within 5 days of the registration date, the identity verification is automatically cancelled. You will then need to register again for a new identity verification.
