Incorrect details for proof of identity

Description

If incorrect details are entered in the AGOV account, the identity check will be cancelled and then repeated. You can avoid unnecessary time and effort by entering and checking your details carefully.

Instructions

Please observe the following instructions when entering your personal details:

Details Correct spelling Example
Special characters
  • Umlauts and special characters can be replaced by the international spelling.
  • Umlauts:
    Müller → Mueller
    Öster → Oester
  • Special characters:
    Michèlle → Michelle
    François → Francois
First name
  • Use the official spelling according to the identity document.
  • If you have more than one first name, you need only enter one of them.
  • on the ID: Hansrudolf → incorrect­: Hansruedi, Hans or Ruedi
  • on the ID: Thomas Markus → correct­: Thomas Markus, Thomas or Markus
Surname
  • Compound surnames are indicated on the identity document and must be entered as such.
  • Alliance surnames are connected by a hyphen ‘-’ and only need to be entered if they are used on the identity document.
  • Compound surname:
    On the ID: Leutenegger Oberholzer → incorrect: Leutenegger or Oberholzer
  • Alliance surname:
    On the ID: Müller-Scheidegger → incorrect­: Müller, Scheidegger or Müller Scheidegger
    On the ID: Müller → correct: Müller or Müller-Scheidegger
Domicile address

  • For Swiss domicile addresses, the street name and town must be entered in accordance with the Swiss Post format. This is automatically suggested by AGOV when entering the address.
  • The correct street and town/city name can be checked on The federal geoportal .

Date of birth
  • Make sure the day and month are in the correct order: "day.month.year".
12 August 1970 → 12.08.1970
AHV details
  • Enter first name and surname as per AHV card. If the details do not match the current AHV card, you must have the details corrected at the relevant AHV branch office.
  • The place of birth is automatically corrected according to the details in the AHV register.


Address verification
For account holders resident in Switzerland, the data entered is checked against the Swiss Post address database to see if it is valid for deliveries:
  • Before a verification letter is sent, the first name, surname and domicile address are checked.
  • When registering for personal proof of identity, the domicile address is checked
If the data you enter does not match the information provided by Swiss Post, the address verification is cancelled with an error message.

If the address verification fails despite correctly entered data, your details in the Swiss Post address database are probably not up to date. Possible reasons include:

  • An unreported change of address or name.
  • A family member or sub-tenant is not personally registered with Swiss Post.
  • Misspelling of a name or non-official spelling, e.g. Ruedi instead of Rudolf.
