Removing security keys from the AGOV account

You want to remove a security key from your AGOV account.

Conditions
  • To remove a security key, you need a functioning login factor for accessing your AGOV account. If there are no longer any login factors available, the account will have to be recovered; see the What can I do if I no longer have access to my smartphone/tablet or security key? help article.
  • A login factor can be removed only if at least 3 login factors are registered in your AGOV account. This is a security precaution to avoid you locking yourself out of your AGOV account.
Removing security keys
  1. Log in to your (agov.ch/me) AGOV account.

  2. Go to Login factors and select the security key that you want to remove. Click on Manage device.

  3. Select the option Remove security key and click on Continue. The selected security key does not need to be inserted in the PC or laptop.

  4. Read the instructions and click on Confirm.

  5. Confirm the changes with a login factor.

    The prompts may differ depending on the Android and iOS version.

    1. You will receive a push notification from AGOV access app, which will be displayed in the status bar on your smartphone or tablet. Click on the push notification to confirm the entries with the AGOV access app.

      If no push notification is displayed, check whether push notifications for the AGOV access app are enabled (see help article: Why doesn't the AGOV access app receive push notifications?).


    2. Confirm using your PIN, fingerprint or Face ID.

    3. Click on Continue to finalise the confirmation.
      Successful registration is displayed in the AGOV access app.

    2. Select the security key option and connect it to your PC's USB port.

    1. Click on Start Verification.

    4. Enter the PIN of your security key. Tap the security key to confirm.

  6. Successful removal of the security keys is confirmed in your account and by email.
